Mystic Glow Effect
Here's a simple effect that has a nice effect on some images, especially if you're looking to make something nice and glowy. Makes things look almost magical.
Difficulty Level: Easy
Time Required: ~ 1 minute
First, choose the image you want to use. If you want to test on the same image I'm using, you can find it here. (Image obtained from IGN. Resized by myself.)
Now that you have your image open in Photoshop, copy it into a fresh window and save it as a PSD file. Then duplicate the base image so there are two identical layers.

Your layer palette should look like that.
Next, select the top layer. Go to Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur and set the blur to between 2 and 4. Some differently-sized images may be more or less, but this range usually works best for me.
When you've done that, change the blending option to "Lighten," like so:

Export the image and voila! You now have a smooth, shiny image with glowing accents.
