Devil May Cry 3
Devil May Cry 3 is a prequel to the original Devil May Cry game. In it, you play as Dante (of course), you are still quite the badass, and you still have your sword and 2 guns.
The game starts when, as you're minding your own business, a creepy guy in a suit shows up with a message- from your brother, Virgil. The "message" is none other than a battallion of demons and reapers, come to kick your ass. However, when they pierce you, you just drag em' to the jukebox, hit the techno beats, and eat your pizza while kicking some underworld ass. After all is said and done, a gigantic tower shows up in the middle of town-with your brother waiting on top.
Gameplay-
The gameplay of Devil May Cry 3 is topnotch-the fighting being the best part, as it should be in an action game. You can now choose from several styles of fighting techniques before you start a mission, or you find a statue. You can also increase the level of the techniques, allowing you access to stronger and better abilities. You start with 4, and they are as follows:
Trickster-Mainly for dodging techniques, Trickster allows you to move fast, or even teleport if you have a high enough level. It's a good, evasive style.
Swordmaster- You can pull off strong attacks with your blade that let you kick some demon ass even faster than before. Obviously an offensive style.
Gunslinger- depending on which gun(s) you use, you can do several thing. i.e., with Ebony and Ivory, you can shoot in 2 directions at the same time, or with the shotgun, you spin the gun around while shooting it 4 times in a row all around you. Like Swordmaster, an offensive style.
Royalguard-Defense moves. 'Nuff said.
There are also 2 you can unlock by beating bosses. They are:
Doppleganger- You create a shadow of yourself that allows a 2nd player to fight badguys alongside you. :)
Quiksilver- If you have a good level, you can slow down time around you, but it takes up a Demon Trigger. (Unless you have the Super Dante costume)
Which brings me to my next order of business- The costumes.
Unlocked by beating difficulty settings, they all make you look different-but the Super Dante costume(unlocked by beating the Dante Must Die difficulty) allows you to have unlimited Demon Trigger (magic, basically).
Now during fights, you can pull off some insane combos-either sword swings, jumping gun action, or *ahem* slash your enemy into the air with your sword and then suspend them there with bullets from your guns. You'll need these combos and more to fight off your enemies-usually because you fight dozens at a time.
After a certain point in the game, you can also transform into a Demon-giving you added strength and speed, but it drains Demon Trigger.
The visual graphics in this game are simply amazing. Many details have been done perfectly, and the cutscenes are done flawlessly.
As for the music, if you're a fan of techno music, this is very much your kind of game- each battle with a horde of enemies is accompanied by techno beats you'd think you'd only hear from some DJ's basement. They have a dark tone to them, which makes sense given the dark tone of the game itself, and are awesome to listen to while fighting. The voices are also done very well, Dante and Virgil have great voices, very much suited to their charaters.
Sound- 9
Graphics- 8
Story- 8
Enemies- 8 (If only because you get to kill them so nicely)
Battles- 9
Replay Value- 8
